AINSLIE RENAMES OVAL IN HONOUR

On Saturday the 29th March a guard of honour was formed in memory of the late Alan Ray. Ainslie football club along with its board and members officially renamed Ainslie Oval the Alan Ray oval in commemoration of Alan.

Alan had been involved with the Ainslie football and social club for over 60 years, starting as a junior footballer and progressing all the way up to eventually becoming club president in 1972.

Alan was widely respected across the club for his constant commitment, leadership and support that he gave the Ainslie Tricolours. Along with being president of the club,
discount ray ban sunglasses Alan also played 186 first grade games between 1951 and 1962, and won the best and fairest award three times, making him a legend on and off the field.

Alan also held the title of Football club secretary from 1958 to 1968, Vice President from 1970 to 1971 and treasurer from 1978 1981. Alan was awarded Life Membership of the Football club in 1963 as well as receiving a National Australian Football council Merit Award in 1970.

He was also a member of the Social Club Committee from 1959, and after many years of involvement with

and his father Stan were instrumental in making sure the history of both clubs was kept, with meticulous records Smith added.

Alan played his final ever game with great courage and dignity. The Ainslie Football club will be at a huge loss without his warm and loyal friendship around the club.
