Coquitlam Mounties have a new top cop

There’s a new top cop in the Tri Cities.

Op vrijdag, Coquitlam RCMP announced Sean Maloney as the new superintendent of the detachment, which serves Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and the villages of Anmore and Belcarra.

The municipal staff, Mounties and volunteers of the Coquitlam RCMP are welcoming a new boss this month. After a nationwide competition, the cities of Coquitlam and
cheap ray ban outlet Port Coquitlam unanimously selected a candidate from Metro Vancouver to take over from Supt. Claude Wilcott, who retired in February. Supt. Sean Maloney, een 33 year veteran of the force who has worked for Richmond RCMP since 2012, will be the new top cop for Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and the Kwikwetlem First Nation.

"As soon as I heard that the job of OIC Coquitlam RCMP was available, I knew I wanted it, said Maloney. The men and women of Coquitlam RCMP are known as an exceptionally talented, tight knit, innovative group and this detachment has a reputation as having a very strong connection to the communities it serves. I’m really excited to be part of this team.

We’re looking forward to working with Superintendent Maloney to continue to enhance the safety of our residents, said Port Coquitlam Mayor, Greg Moore. He brings a breadth of experience and leadership that Port Coquitlam will benefit from, including his community driven and hands on approach.

Our community puts a high value on its police services. For that reason, I am pleased to have Sean Maloney join the Coquitlam Detachment, said Coquitlam Mayor, Richard Stewart. He has a successful track record in a similar sized community, first hand knowledge of both the public safety opportunities and challenges that come with

This not only makes him especially well suited to lead the third largest RCMP detachment in Metro Vancouver, but also will allow him to build on the success that has earned our local detachment a 95 per cent approval rating from Coquitlam residents. Supt. Maloney joined the RCMP in December 1981 and moved up the ranks serving communities across British Columbia. He has held a diverse range of operational, administrative and executive roles including 11 years of Emergency Response Team experience and five years leading E Division’s Aboriginal Policing section. Meest recent, he served as Operations Officer in Richmond, in charge of uniformed patrol in one of Canada’s largest municipal RCMP detachments.

I joined the RCMP because I wanted a challenging, interesting career that would allow me to make
cheap ray bans a difference, help people and build communities, said Maloney. I’ve done a lot of different jobs in the RCMP but detachment policing is where I get everything I wanted from my career. I’m glad to have the opportunity to lead a detachment, especially this one.

Superintendent Maloney officially takes over as Officer in Charge of Coquitlam RCMP later this month.

Joined the RCMP Dec. 14, 1981.
